Legal Diversity

A strong legal system reflects the people it serves. At Nieves IP, we are committed to expanding opportunity within the legal profession so that talent from every background has a path to succeed.

Creating a diverse legal community

We believe in the inherent value of every individual, regardless of background.

Our mission is to help build a legal profession that is demonstrably fair, impartial, and open to talent from all communities. By supporting greater diversity within the legal system, we aim to strengthen the profession and contribute to legal policies and practices that better serve society.

Nieves IP is a 100% minority-owned business. We believe in the inherent value of every person and are committed to fostering respect, understanding, and opportunity within the legal community so that talented individuals from every background can thrive.

Our Approach

Nieves IP works to strengthen diversity within the legal profession through initiatives across three key areas of the legal ecosystem: law schools, the attorney community, and the judiciary.

Law School

The path to a more diverse legal profession begins at the law school level. Recognising the financial and structural barriers that many aspiring attorneys face, Nieves IP supports initiatives that expand opportunity for talented students from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Founder Peter Nieves previously served on the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law Dean’s Advisory Board, where alumni, students, and faculty collaborated to develop a strategic plan focused on advancing fairness and representation within the legal profession.

In addition, Nieves IP established the UNH Diversity Equity and Inclusion Scholarship in cooperation with the law school. Each year, the scholarship helps ease the financial burden of tuition for students pursuing legal careers, helping ensure that the next generation of attorneys more closely reflects the communities they will serve.

Attorney Community

Building a more representative legal profession also requires collaboration among practicing attorneys. Peter Nieves actively works with members of the legal community to expand opportunity and strengthen pathways for attorneys from a broad range of backgrounds.

One such initiative is the New Hampshire 1L Diversity Internship Program, which helps first-year law students gain valuable experience and professional connections early in their legal careers. These types of programs play a critical role in helping talented individuals establish themselves within the profession.

Peter Nieves also serves on the New Hampshire Access to Justice Commission, working alongside legal professionals and public leaders to expand access to legal support for individuals who may otherwise struggle to obtain representation.

Judicial Branch

Nieves IP believes that lasting change within the legal profession must also involve the judiciary. Peter Nieves serves on the Advisory Board to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch Steering Committee on Diversity and Inclusion, which is focused on identifying disparities within the judicial system and developing strategies to address them.

Through this work, the Advisory Board collaborates directly with the New Hampshire judiciary to help develop and implement initiatives designed to strengthen fairness, representation, and public trust in the legal system.

By engaging with law schools, practicing attorneys, and the judiciary, Nieves IP seeks to contribute to a legal profession that reflects the diversity, talent, and potential of the communities it serves.
